Evening Stroll
The hedgerows wear a glowing gown of silk
while small birds serenade the end of day.
A polka dot of stitch worth hints at fashion,
-white, against the multi-greens of May.
Tall, waving grass provides the wayside fabric’s warp
through which the slanting shafts of sunlight weave.
Nettles effect a diamond patterned background,
while bobbly-flowered pennies texture leave.
A power-walking “would-be-thin,” I stride
the verge in frazzle focused, blind to beauty mode,
till work world’s blinkered and stiff standards fade,
while soaking in God’s pastoral gifts bestowed.
So when at last I, loose limbed, homeward swing
I wear that calm serenity, and I too sing.
