Evening Stroll
THE BURREN WAY
by Heather Smith
Misting rain caresses face
Softly washing pain
Lifting fog, craggy cliffs
Swathed in majesty again
Waves batter, eternal beat.
And buffeted by wind
A fan tailed seagull hovers
Against the cliff face, pinned,
Scanning nest and sea
The Aran Isles appear
Distant and remote but
Mystical and clear
Fragrance wafts from crevices
Hugged by bonsai plants
And in the clefted karst, I hear
The tinkling grasses dance
A pilgrim , blessed by flowers
I tread the long, alcove,
And anger is discarded
In the hidden hazel grove
Dappled light on shaded leaf
Where healing waters flow
Renewing and recharging
A place where I can grow
A sense of peace comes over me
As I part with grief that day
And with my fellow travellers step
Along the Burren Way
